Led by tri-captain state finalist Rylee Cronkright, the lady Wildcats started the season with a 2nd place finish at the very challenging Unity Christian Invitational. Rylee, a junior, finished 2nd, followed by sophomore state finalist Naomi Oosterhouse in 10th place. Both girls were medalists. Not far behind was junior Gracie Hasse (12th), who has shown noticeable improvement and strength. Dual sport athlete tri-captain Zoe Antel (15th), who qualified for state in both cross country and swimming in 2017. Looking very strong in her 1st varsity race was freshman Haylee Jasinski (22nd). Junior Corrina Courser, a 2017 state qualifier in cross country and track (setting the school record in the 300 hurdles) was 32nd and freshman Serena VanHouten was 34th in her 1st varsity race. The Wayland girls will run next in the Kelloggsville Rocket Invitational on Thursday, August 29 at the South Christian Sports Complex. Boys run at 4:30 and the girls at 5:15.
