Wyoming High School
Wayland High School
Wayland and Wyoming entered into a battle on Thursday night. It had rained all day, but started to calm down once the game began. Wyoming opened the scoring right after the first whistle blew as a player got behind the defense and put one past our goalie. Wayland answered back as senior Austin “Chuck” Wroblewski but his first of the night over the Wyoming keeper. Wayland continued to pressure hard and put a shot on goal which was stopped by a Wyoming defender’s hand, resulting in a red card. Chuck took advantage of this opportunity and put the penalty shot by the keeper for his second of the night. Wyoming brought the ball down soon after and tied the game at 2-2. This is how the first half ended.
In the second half the Wildcats continued the pressure. Junior Sean McCarthy scored his first goal of the season as he cleaned up a second chance ball inside the box, giving Wayland a 3-2 lead. Later in the half Chuck completed his hat trick as he blasted a free kick through the wall and into the goal. Our defense stood tall and stopped Wyoming’s counter attack the remainder of the game. Senior Goalie Kyle Thelen recorded 10 saves in the 4-2 win.
