The D2 Regional at Houseman Field was contested after a long day of wind, rain, cold, and no official results until 11:20 pm. Despite that, the Lady Wildcats produced some PR performances! Abigail Hasse ran a PR in the 400 with a time of 68.84. Rylee Cronkright was a Regional Medalist, finishing 6th in the 1600, with a PR of 5:34.97. She also finished 6th in the 3200 with another PR time of 12:12.18. Zoe Antel ran a high school PR of 13:03.97, in the 3200 run. Corrina Courser just missed qualifying for the 300 hurdles by .4 with a PR time of 48.8. She did set the Freshmen record at Wayland Union with that end-of-the-season effort! The 4 x 100 relay team of Jessica Hortman, Vanessa Brown, Brittany Ludwig, and Khylea Wells just missed a seasonal record in a time of 56.74 to finish 11th. The 4 x 400 relay team of Maggie Whitney, Abigail Hasse, Hannah Rybiski, and Corinna Courser finished with a 5th place Regional Medal in a time of 4:28.14. Zoe Antel, Abigail Hasse, Rylee Cronkright, and Maggie Whitney also ran to 5th place medals in the 4 x 800 with an SR of 10:25.70! It was really quite a day in the Discus Cage for two Seniors, McKenna Dutkiewicz and Captain, Elizabeth Barnes. They both threw huge PRs to make the finals and go on to earn 5th and 7th place Regional Medals, respectively. McKenna threw 89’11” while Elizabeth threw 86’1″. It was a wonderful way to cap off careers of hard work! Certainly, the highlight of the night, came with a Regional Champion in the 800 meter run. Maggie Whitney, recent OK Gold Champion, and now Regional Champ, outran the entire field to finish with a State Qualifying time of 2:17.99. This Herculean effort not only broke Jessica Armstrong’s Wayland Union record from 2006, but currently places her 4th in the State (as Regional results roll in over the weekend). Whitney, a Junior, is truly looking forward to competing with the best in the State at the D-2 Finals in Zeeland, in a few weeks.
