The Wayland Union Wildcats Varsity Baseball team lost a 9-inning thriller to rival Hopkins in the opening game of the 2017 Wayland Union Invitational. Chris Kincaid started on the mound for the Wildcats, as he pitched the first 6 innings, allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 6 hits while striking out 6 and walking 2. Carter Morse entered in relief of Kincaid and pitched the final 3 innings, allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 3 hits, striking out 5 and walking none. Offensive leaders for the Wildcats were Mitch Dykstra, Jared Rankin, Cam Ritz, and Chris Kincaid.
