Wayland High School
Zeeland East High School
The Wayland Union Varsity Baseball team picked up their first win of the season by defeating Zeeland East High School by a score of 4-0. The game was highlighted by a complete game no-hitter tossed by Wayland Union Senior Chris Kincaid. Kincaid went the distance, striking out 6 Chix hitters and walking 4. He was backed by a supreme Wildcat defensive effort, which allowed Wayland to keep the high-powered Zeeland East offense in check.
The Wildcats were able to push across 3 runs in the top of the 4th inning to break open a scoreless game. Mitch Dykstra led off the inning with a single, followed by a Carter Morse double, and an RBI single from Parker Atwell. Atwell was able to steal 2nd base, setting up runners on 2nd and 3rd for Chris Kincaid. Kincaid brought home Morse with a sacrifice fly to left field. Atwell advanced to 3rd on a groundout from Travis Cutler, and a 2-out throwing error by the 3rd baseman on a ground ball from Camden Ritz scored Atwell.
The Wildcats were able to push one more run across in the top of the 7th-Inning, as Jamie Snyder got things started with a one out single to right field. Keaton McNees entered the game as a pinch runner and proceeded to steal 2nd base, before moving over to 3rd base via a passed ball. Ethan Wood’s sharply hit ground ball to short scored McNees, leading to the final score of 4-0.
The Wildcats are back in action on Tuesday, March 28th as they travel to Byron Center High School for a single game with the Bulldogs beginning at 4:00pm.
