The Wayland Union Varsity Baseball team opened up the 2017 Evart Cat Classic with a thrilling 10-inning victory over the Vandals of Merrill High School by a score of 5-4. Jamie Snyder started on the mound for the Wildcats, as he pitched the first 2 innings allowing 3 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits and striking out 1. Snyder was relieved by Kayd Hulst, as Hulst tossed 3 innings, allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 2 hits, striking out 5. Carter Morse relieved Hulst, as Morse became the winning pitcher of record tossing 4 innings, allowing 0 runs on 3 hits, striking out 7 and walking 1. Keaton McNees picked up the save on the mound, as he closed out the 10th inning for the Wayland victory. McNees line was 1 inning pitched, 0 runs on 1 hit, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout.

Jamie Snyder delivered the game winning hit for the Wildcats in the top of the 10th inning, scoring Travis Cutler from 3rd base with a 2-out RBI single. Leading the offensive attack for Wayland Union with multiple hits were Cam Ritz, Keaton McNees, Travis Cutler, and Jamie Snyder. Ritz was 2-for-4 with an RBI. McNees was 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Cutler was 4-for-5 with 2 runs scored and 5 stolen bases. Snyder was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
